On April 19th, 2019, two JMU students were tragically killed in a car crash on Interstate 81. The accident happened while the students were returning to campus from their spring break. They had been traveling together in a Toyota Corolla when they collided head-on with a tractor trailer near Lexington, Virginia.
Both of the students died at the scene due to blunt force trauma and burns resulting from the fire that started after impact. It was later revealed that one of them was not wearing his seatbelt which likely contributed to the severity of his injuries and subsequent death. Jmu Students Car Crash Update
Recently, a car crash involving four JMU students occurred on the evening of August 30th. Three of the students were taken to Sentara RMH Medical Center for treatment and one was airlifted to UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time, however all four are expected to make full recoveries.

James Madison University Deaths
James Madison University is a public university in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Unfortunately, there have been several deaths at JMU due to various incidents over the years. In 2012, two students died in separate accidents; one after falling from a balcony and the other while riding an ATV.
The following year, another student passed away due to natural causes. In 2014, a freshman was killed when he fell off of his bicycle while riding on campus grounds. Most recently in 2016, a student lost her life as the result of alcohol poisoning at an off-campus fraternity party.
